The studio

Our Team

Cat Splat Studios is two people and a cat, in Toronto, since 2015. Hisham writes the code and the tech. Kyle designs the games, art directs them, and keeps the projects on the rails. Vader reviews the work whether we ask him to or not.

The team

Hisham Ata

Founder / Technical Director

Hisham founded Cat Splat Studios in 2015 and does the engineering. Gleamwood's Unity 6 codebase, the Steam build pipeline, and Cat Splat Engine, the studio's own C++ renderer and editor, are all his. He came to games from programming, IT and project management. Outside the studio he plays fighting games, and for years he commentated on the Canadian fighting game circuit, including tournaments backed by Red Bull and other major sponsors.

Kyle Skidmore

Project Manager / Game Designer

Kyle designs the games, art directs them and runs the projects. What a run of Gleamwood asks of you, and what it feels like to play, is his call. He has loved games since he could hold a controller and cares most about the systems underneath them, which is also why he is the team's default Dungeon Master.

Vader

Team Mascot

Vader is an adventurous fluffy cat who continues to motivate us with his enthusiasm and attention to detail when reviewing our work. His furrvourite games involved the kitty post and laser (pointer) tag!

Our mission

We have made games in Toronto since 2015. What we care about is the part underneath: combat that behaves the same way every time, levels proved walkable before they ship, and content a designer can change without waiting on a programmer. We build the tools alongside the game so the team can keep experimenting and refining.

Right now

What we're working on

Sentinels of Gleamwood is the studio's own game. It's a 2D action roguelite for Windows, headed to Steam, unreleased. Development is focused on the game and its content, with art and story still evolving.

Alongside it we take contract work, in Unity and in Unreal, on the same pipeline. We agree availability and scope for each project. Our services page explains how we can help.
